The Nevada Space Grant Consortium (NVSGC) announces available funding for 2018-2019 Research Infrastructure.

Focus:  The Nevada Space Grant Consortium (NVSGC) seeks to develop a diverse and capable Nevada STEM workforce by providing funds for NASA-related faculty research and/or workforce development projects. Selected faculty projects will enhance Nevada’s research infrastructure and/or provide authentic “hands-on” research opportunities for students in topic areas such as:  unmanned aerial systems, aeronautics (including high altitude balloon projects), planetary geology, astrochemistry, astrophysics, astrobiology, biodiversity/biology, new satellite data systems, remote sensing, sustainability, agricultural science, climate change, hydrological impacts under a changing climate, and STEM education.  These funds should not augment existing funded research projects.

Eligibility: Faculty within any Nevada System of Higher Education Institution, particularly junior faculty, women, and members of other underrepresented populations are encouraged to apply. Faculty receiving direct funding do not have to be U.S. citizens, but students receiving funding must be U.S. citizens. Note: Students with permanent status, a green card, etc. are not eligible to receive funding through this NVSGC grant.

Funding:  NVSGC, depending on available funds, anticipates 3 projects will be awarded. Project total should not exceed $45,000 ($22.5K federal/$22.5K state match). State funds will be provided by State Special Projects match. Each submitted proposal must include signed budgets from collaborating campuses with the amount of the collaborators total budget listed under 1.A. Subcontracts on the NSHE budget form.

Awards will be made to the lead PI and then their institution will sub-award funds to all collaborating NSHE institutions.  It is expected that each institution will receive both Federal and State matching funds close to the 1:1 match requirement.
