Focus: The primary focus of this program is to train (pre-service) teachers who plan to teach STEM at K-12 and (in-service) teachers to infuse NASA-related content into K-12 schools. NVSGC is particularly interested in training teachers to provide pre-college students with hands-on science or engineering activities including the development of teams to compete in science and engineering challenges relevant to NASA.
NVSGC will also support the inclusion of STEM activities in the curricula of education courses at Nevada K-12 schools. In addition, NVSGC is seeking to support training opportunities for teachers to enhance their knowledge in specific STEM topics that will attract students to STEM disciplines.
Eligibility: Faculty at any Nevada System of Higher Education institution may apply. Important Change: Given new clarifications we received from the general counsel for NASA's Office of Education, non-U.S. citizen faculty may now submit proposals for this solicitation.
Funding: In anticipation of receiving a one-year funded extension of Nevada's current Space Grant award, NVSGC seeks to fund 1 project with a maximum federal contribution of $25,000 each. Due to the requirements of the Space Grant program, a 1:1 institutional match is required on all awarded funds. The total maximum budget amount with match per proposal is $50,000 (maximum $25,000 federal + maximum $25,000 institutional match). The number of awards and funding level is contingent on the availability of funds, which will not be known until the beginning of June 2018.
Activity period: Proposed activities may occur during the fall 2018 semester through spring/summer 2019.
Please read the full solicitation for all relevant details.
