Focus: This program is designed to support independently conceived research or hands-on projects that contribute directly to NASA’s Mission Directorate priorities.
Eligibility: Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) students who are full-time undergraduate students enrolled in a NASA-related STEM program will be considered for either a fully immersed 2026 summer research program or the full academic year (Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters) research program. Please note that when applying, the applicant must indicate whether a summer or academic year scholarship period is preferred. To receive the scholarship funds during a summer research scholarship, the student must be enrolled in at least one credit at their home institution. Alternatively, you may opt to receive the scholarship funds during the Fall semester after completion of the research project during the summer. Enrollment over the summer will not be required if you opt to receive the scholarship funds in the Fall semester (Fall enrollment is required). All participating students must be supervised by at least one NSHE faculty mentor; and maintain full-time enrollment status at their institution(s) throughout the scholarship period. You must be deemed eligible to receive financial aid by your home institution to receive the scholarship.
Scholarship Amount: $3,000 for either a 10-week period during the summer 2026 or the 2026-2027 school year. Students who opt to receive the scholarship during the school year will receive half of the award in the Fall semester and half of the award in the Spring semester.
Funds are disbursed at the beginning of each term, contingent upon the student maintaining full-time enrollment, good academic standing, and continued faculty mentorship. In addition, all recipients will be required to use a portion of their scholarship funds to attend and present at the Nevada statewide NASA EPSCoR/NVSGC meeting in Reno in spring 2027.
Award Period: Summer 2026 or Fall 2026 through Spring 2027 semesters.
